About

Precision surgery.
Compassionate care.

I trained at Oxford, Melbourne and London — including a fellowship at St Mark's, the world's foremost specialist colorectal centre. That foundation shapes everything I do in private practice.

Miss Sarah Mills is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Welbeck London and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where she is MDT Lead for Colorectal Cancer and Rapid Access Colorectal Cancer pathways. She holds an Honorary Senior Lecturership in the Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London.

She graduated from Oxford University Medical School in 1998 and undertook surgical training in Oxford, Melbourne and London. Before her consultant appointment she completed specialist colorectal fellowships at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia, and at St Mark's Hospital, London — an internationally recognised centre of excellence for colorectal disease. Her doctorate (MD, Imperial College) was awarded in 2005 for research into the immunology of inflammatory bowel disease.

In 2022 she was appointed National Training Lead for the Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the body that oversees endoscopy training and accreditation across the United Kingdom. She is a JAG-accredited endoscopist with a specialist practice in interventional endoscopy and TAMIS (transanal minimally invasive surgery) for complex polyps and early rectal cancers.

Cutting-Edge Technique

Treating rectal polyps & early cancers without major surgery

Transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) removes large polyps and early rectal cancers through the anus — avoiding bowel resection. Miss Mills is one of a small number of UK surgeons offering this approach in private practice.

  • Avoids major bowel resection
Suitable for polyps and T1 rectal cancers that would otherwise require open surgery, an anastomosis, or stoma.
  • Day-case or overnight
Shorter hospital stay, faster recovery, and return to normal activity within days rather than weeks.
  • Preserves bowel function
Full-thickness excision with clear margins and preservation of normal bowel continuity and sphincter function.
  • Available privately in London
Offered at Welbeck Digestive Health and HCA The Lister Hospital.

Miss Mills was extremely attentive and went above and beyond to put me at ease. Her care, consideration and thoroughness were genuinely exceptional. She patiently explained everything — I never once felt rushed. Extremely rare to feel as though I'd learned everything I needed within a single consultation, but I did here.

Outstanding professionalism and expertise in dealing with a very complex surgery. Not only did Miss Mills perform as a first-class surgeon, but her support, approach and continuous care helped me recover pain free and stress free.

In a field that is traditionally male-dominated, Miss Mills stands out — not merely by breaking barriers but by setting a new standard of care. I cannot speak highly enough about her excellence in every aspect of her practice as a surgeon.
